Specimen Preparation In HouseDirect brushings, washings and other types of cytological specimens may be useful in detecting and monitoring neoplastic and inflammatory or infectious processes of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine and rectum. These specimens must be collected by individuals with expertise in this area in order to ensure representative and well preserved specimens. Stat AvailabilitySTAT requests should be kept to a minimum. All STAT requests must be approved by a staff pathologist, and the cytology laboratory notified as soon as possible whenever a STAT is anticipated.
