Special Handling Instructions

Completed Chromosome Analysis Request form. Specimen must be sent directly to Cytogenetics Lab. Proper vacutainer use should be followed. Never place 2-3cc of blood in a tube meant for 7-8 cc of blood.

Contact lab after procurement of sample. Transport immediately for receipt in lab during acceptable times.

Specimen Stability

Extreme temperature fluctuations and extended transport time causes death to cells. If procured in the wrong vacutainer, specimen will be compromised.

Specimen Transport

Specimens should be transported in a temperature controlled container such as Styrofoam. Specimens accepted 8am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday. Contact tech on call for other times.

Test Turnaround Time Routines And Stats

7 or more days depending on referral diagnosis

Test Results

Results are sent to powerchart and a fax copy of results is sent to the requesting physician if all appropriate information is obtained.
