Musculoskeletal Abnormalities After Injury
Many limb deformities are present at birth, but post-traumatic deformities are due to injury, accidents, infection or tumors. The deformity can be caused by the injury itself or from complications with treatment or management of the injury.
Common limb deformities include:
- Bone loss
- Fractures that heal at an odd angle
- Limb length discrepancy (limb shortening)
- Malrotation such a a foot or knee turning in or out
Symptoms, Diagnosis and Outlook
Limb deformities due to trauma can happen suddenly or as you heal from a trauma, such as a car accident. There are many treatment options including medical treatment, splinting or bracing.
