Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment do I need for a virtual health care appointment?
For a virtual health care visit, you will need:
- A smartphone, tablet, laptop or other device
- A My Health Patient Portal account
- Strong internet connection
What if I need to be seen in person?
About 80% of all visits can be done virtually. If your provider decides you need to be seen in person, your care team will help you schedule a visit at a time that works for your schedule.
Will Insurance cover my virtual visits?
If you have health insurance, we will bill your health plan for your visit. Most health insurance plans cover virtual health services, but some have limitations on the type of care you can receive from home. Check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage for virtual care.
How do I get a diagnostic test (e.g., blood draw or imaging)?
We will schedule lab tests or imaging for you at a Penn State Health facility and communicate the results to you quickly.
What if I need specialty care?
Our primary care providers can refer you or consult with a specialist for specific health concerns. We work closely with Penn State Health specialists to ensure you receive comprehensive care tailored to your needs.
Can my children become Virtual Primary Care patients?
Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to join. We cannot provide care for children under 18 because they need in-person health care and a regular vaccine schedule.
