About Us

Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center was created specifically for the Lancaster County community and opened its doors to patients on Oct. 3, 2022. The 142-bed suburban hospital provides inclusive, individualized and collaborative care to patients, at an easy-to-access location near state routes 283 and 772. The design and construction won an award of merit for health care construction in the Engineering News-Record Mid-Atlantic 2023 Regional Best Projects competition.

Nurses at Lancaster Medical Center work in a setting that integrates the latest health care delivery technologies with a clean, modern design that takes advantage of the location’s abundant natural light. When staff need a break, they can recharge on a pedestrian path that circles the campus and offers a view of rehabilitated wetlands. Most importantly, Penn State Health understands the need for work-life balance and supports nurses with respect, recognition and opportunities for growth.

Pursuing nursing excellence

Our goal is to always pursue nursing excellence. To help ensure this, we’ve developed a Nursing Professional Practice Model that is unique to Lancaster Medical Center. It shows how nurses practice, collaborate, communicate and develop professionally to provide the highest-quality care for those we serve in every setting where nursing care is delivered.

As part of the Penn State Health network of hospitals, outpatient centers and specialty providers, we’re committed to upholding the health system’s RITE values - Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence - which provide the foundation for a considerate work and patient care environment. An expectation of mutual respect is a priority for our organization, employees and patients.

Professional Development

Nurses are supported in their professional development through a team of dedicated registered nurse educators and clinical nurse specialists who oversee orientation, competency validation, continuing education and ongoing professional and leadership development programs, such as preceptor and facilitator courses.

Professional Practice Model

The schematic uses a continuous circle to depict the integration of nursing practice with Penn State Health’s mission, vision and RITE values - Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence. The circle in Penn State blue and the surrounding constructs express those components most important to our nurses and their work environment. The colors were chosen purposefully to mirror the colors used on each of our hospital’s floors - blue for unity, teal for hope, green for healing, Penn State blue for discovery and lavender for serenity - further aligning with the environment in which we practice.

Our commitment to diversity

In 2017, Penn State Health became one of the first health care organizations in the country to implement a written policy stating that patients and their family members shall not discriminate against any of our employees based on aspects of diversity. In addition, the policy states that patients must also agree they will not request a different health care team member based on any part of that individual’s diversity. This ensures continuity of care and reinforces mutual respect.

Recognizing excellent clinical care

Our nurses go above and beyond every day. One way we recognize the compassionate and excellent clinical care they provide is through nominations for The DAISY Award.

  • The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program started in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Pat’s family experienced firsthand the difference his nurses made in his care through clinical excellence and outstanding, compassionate care. The family created The DAISY Award to express gratitude to nurses and to enable others to thank and honor their special nurses.
  • Staff, patients and their families, and visitors can nominate a nurse for this award.
